This policy explains how The Modern Wellman handles general enquiries, necessary site security information and optional preferences stored in your browser.
Who this notice is for
This notice describes how personal information may be used when you read The Modern Wellman or choose to send a general enquiry. The website is a free editorial resource with a contact route, not a medical service or a system for patient records. The Modern Wellman can be contacted at [email protected], by telephone on +44 151 203 0732 or by post at 162 Childwall Valley Rd, Liverpool L25 2PL, United Kingdom. You may use these contact details for privacy questions or requests concerning information you have sent. We aim to make it straightforward to understand what the site itself collects and where other service providers may be involved.
Information you choose to send
The contact form asks for a full name, email address, general subject and message. These fields are used to understand a general enquiry and to make a reply possible. The acknowledgement box records that you have seen this policy and understand the general-enquiry scope; it is not a request to opt in to marketing. We do not ask for date of birth, medical history, medicines, diagnoses, symptoms or similar special-category information. Please do not include those details in the message field or in follow-up email. The form has character limits and a hidden anti-spam field, and incomplete or invalid submissions are rejected rather than reported as received.
How enquiries are processed
When you submit the form, the server checks the fields, checks a session-based anti-forgery token, applies basic rate limiting and attempts to send the enquiry using the configured PHP mail transport to [email protected]. If the mail transport rejects the attempt, the form displays an error rather than a success message. Transport acceptance does not guarantee that the message has reached an inbox or been read. The website application does not save message bodies in its own database or local application files. Copies may nevertheless exist within email systems, mail queues, hosting backups or security logs managed by the relevant service providers.
Why the information is used
General enquiries are processed so that we can receive and, when appropriate, respond to messages about the publication. For ordinary editorial correspondence, legitimate interests in managing communications is a relevant UK GDPR lawful basis, subject to the circumstances and rights of the person writing. In situations involving a specific requested agreement or a legal obligation, a different lawful basis may apply. The contact form's privacy acknowledgement shows that the notice has been read; it is not consent for marketing messages, profiling or the sale of personal information. We do not use it to subscribe visitors to advertising.
Necessary security information
The contact page uses a PHP session to hold an anti-forgery token, a short-lived count of attempted submissions and a one-use indication associated with the confirmation page. Your browser may store a necessary session identifier cookie while the form is in use. The site application does not place your message text in this session or in browser local storage. Separately, hosting infrastructure may record routine technical information such as request time, IP address, browser details and server errors for security and operational purposes. Such technical records are subject to the systems and retention settings of the hosting provider.
Optional on-device choices
The cookie banner offers three genuinely distinct local choices. Functional limits use to necessary operation and a local record of the choice itself. Partial additionally permits an optional Journal category preference in browser local storage. Accept All additionally permits an on-device counter of article page visits. Neither optional feature sends its values to The Modern Wellman servers or to an analytics platform in the application code. The footer provides a Cookie choices button to change a selection; switching to Functional clears optional values. Please see the separate Cookie Policy for the exact technical behaviour and for browser controls.
Website presentation services
The website loads typography through Google Fonts. Those font requests may transmit technical connection information, including an IP address and browser information, to Google. The core site styling is served from our own website, without a separate runtime styling CDN. The site code does not deliberately send contact messages to those resources or integrate advertising pixels from them. Our core articles remain free to read. The Privacy and Cookie Policies focus on the features of this website, while the privacy practices of third-party resources are governed by their respective policies.
Sharing and service providers
The name, email address, subject and message that you submit are addressed to The Modern Wellman contact mailbox. They may be handled by the website host, outgoing mail transport, receiving mailbox provider and other services required to deliver or respond to correspondence. Such services may keep routine operational records or backups according to their own arrangements. We do not create a list of contacts for sale, a marketing subscription database or an automated health profile through this site. Disclosures may also be made where required by applicable law. You can contact us if you have a question about how a particular enquiry was handled.
Retention and deletion
The website itself does not maintain a permanent database of contact messages. Form session information and rate-limiting counters are temporary, whereas correspondence may remain in sent or received mailboxes, mail queues, backups or provider records for different periods. We therefore do not promise a single deletion date for every copy of an enquiry or that every system storing it is located in the UK. Retention may depend on the reason for correspondence, operational security, record-keeping obligations and the arrangements of the relevant providers. You may request erasure of personal data where the law gives you that right. Optional browser preferences remain on your device until you remove them using browser controls or change your cookie choice.
Your rights and questions
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives individuals rights to access personal data, correct inaccuracies, request erasure, restrict or object to certain processing and, in some cases, receive data in a portable form. Rights are not absolute and legal exceptions may apply. You can ask questions about an enquiry or make a rights request at [email protected]; enough information may be needed to confirm that the request relates to you. You also have the right to raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. We would welcome a chance to understand and address a specific concern, but you do not have to contact us before approaching the ICO.
International data and keeping this notice current
The publication is written for UK readers, but web hosting, email delivery and third-party font services may involve systems outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law applies to an international transfer, relevant protections and legal requirements apply. The website application does not make automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects, and it does not seek to infer health conditions from submitted enquiries. This notice reflects the site functions described here; changes to the ways information is collected, shared or retained should be communicated through an updated policy. For questions about your information, you can contact the address provided above.
